Overview

Genetics refer to the science of genes
Healthimize Explainer

genes

Specific sequences of nucleotides along a molecule of DNA (or, in the case of some viruses, RNA) which represent functional units of HEREDITY. Most eukaryotic genes contain a set of coding regions (EXONS) that are spliced together in the transcript, after removal of intervening sequence (INTRONS) and are therefore labeled split genes.

phenotypic variations

The outward appearance of the individual. It is the product of interactions between genes, and between the GENOTYPE and the environment.

in our bodies. Genes, collectively code for distinctive traits in each and every one of us that ultimately determine things such as the color of our eyes or our height and certain predispositions to ailments. Each person's genetics comprises of 50% genes from the mother and 50% genes from the father and therefore, much like how visible traits can be obvious in the offspring compared to their parents, conditions that are genetic in nature can also travel through generations.

Genes Play Role in Alzheimer's Disease
By comparing genome-wide data and brain MRIs from more than 700 people, scientists have confirmed that 4 suspect genes are tied to Alzheimer?s disease. The researchers also linked the disease to 2 new genes, offering unexpected targets for future research. Alzheimer's disease is an irreversible,... Read more
